Vieques, 00765, Puerto Rico
The project is a labor of love for owners Dan and Owen who purchased the building 19 years ago and transformed it into a tropical fantasy space. Their efforts have earned accolades such as the all important Endorsement from Puerto Rico Tourism Company as well as a Number 1 ranking on TripAdvisor. The guest house complex includes 8 ensuite guest rooms and a two bedroom owner/manager house. Casa de Amistad has been featured in The New York Times, The London Guardian, Conde Nast, The Boston Globe and more.
Owen and Dan are now 60-ish (how did that happen??) and beginning to imagine what their lives on Vieques will look like after Casa de Amistad. After many years of creating a Guesthouse into an award winning business they are now ready to pass the torch to the next generation of inn keepers. Having already built their new Vieques home, Casa Isa, located nearby, the guys are excited to find the right buyers to continue and add to the success they have achieved.
Casa de Amistad sits in the heart of Vieques Island’s quaint town of Isabel Segunda making it convenient for guests arriving by ferry or vacationing without a vehicle to wander the bars, restaurants, shops, art galleries and a few beaches. The property began as a very humble building, and after several renovations as a labor of love it has transformed into the amazing guest house Casa de Amistad. One of the many projects was to remove a large communal bathroom that was part of the former hostel. The goal of creating hotel suites began here with each guest room now having it’s own ensuite bathroom. Additionally, all furniture has been updated. All of the guest rooms have air conditioning which not only is an added comfort but extends the season for guests to year round.
The developers took an old style restaurant kitchen and with their guests in mind created a communal kitchen space and additional gathering center where guests can prep their own food. Whether coffee with breakfast, packing lunches for the beach or bringing home your fresh sea catch, the communal kitchen is a value added favorite for Casa de Amistad guests.
The first floor which also has the communal kitchen serves as a multi-use lobby, office, indoor lounges and retail space. The owner’s designed and sold 1000’s of Casa de Amistad t-shirts as well as their own artwork. The retail space inventory could easily be expanded offering Puerto Rican made products such as artwork, jewelry, pottery, coffee and any thing else you may choose.
Another addition created the heart of the inn and the central gathering spot, the dreamy tropical modern pool and fountain. Located in the courtyard of the property a confection of tropical fantasy arose. The gardens have been fussed over for years and it shows as you dine or lounge pool side.
When opportunity knocks, Dan and Owen have been their to answer the door. One day an friendly neighbor came by stating he was moving and wondered if the guys would have any interest in his next door two bedroom home. Of course not to miss an opportunity the guys purchased the home, created the wonderful Casita Isa (after their beloved rescue pup Isa) and now have an owner/managers cottage across the alley, detached but close enough to give guests that added personal touch of service. In summary, Casita Isa is a concrete structure with two bedrooms and one bathroom, air conditioning, and a glass enclosed, tropical sun porch overlooking a stream with avocado tree, palm trees and bread fruit trees. Currently the space is being used by in house managers.
A few years back another opportunity came knocking and the guys were able to purchase an adjacent piece of land. Always looking to improve the business and to satisfy a deep desire to create, the guys dreamed of two more guest room suites and tropical gardens. They enclosed the adjacent land with walls and fencing for cohesion into the overall project and added two king size bed guestrooms with large bathrooms including sky lit showers.
The newly created gardens included the “Zen” garden with a bubbling water feature. There are additional areas for guests to lounge, dine and grill among the gardens. The guys even planted a grove of tropical Bananas and use the ripe fruit to bake fresh Banana bread to further pamper guests.
Currently there is an amazing staff that would be interested in remaining if the new owner wishes including the “rock” Nilsa. Not only has Nilsa been with the guys from the beginning but she has an army of family members and friends who have offered services with each construction project.
Casa de Amistad captures the Vieques vernacular with precision and has become and enviable Bohemian Haven for a plethora of regular and new guests. Bravos Boyz Real Estate and Property Management is thrilled to be a part of passing of this amazing business opportunity to the next deserving buyer!
We have much more information to share once you have toured the property and signed a non-disclosure statement. Call us today to begin your fantasy of living and working on the Caribbean’s favorite island. Vieques is an authentic little island that still retains its soul.
